PRoject outline
How can we provide healthier food options for people in need?Eat Well is a service that delivers healthy food options (either cooked meals or fresh produce) to your work site daily, subsidized by the workers' companies. This was a group project for the Human-Centered Design course by +Acumen and IDEO.org.
user researchFor the research for our project, we centered on users interviews with three individuals that work in the blue-collar sector (construction workers and discount store retail clerk). We want to understand their eating habits at home and work.
One of our teammates volunteered at local community services center. She interviewed the director of operations to gain insights on what type of patrons do the community center services and ideas about food donations. These interviews help us to understand better how low-income people's eating habit. Some of the key findings from the users' research are:
From the results of our users' interviews, we identified some of the patterns and themes that defer some of our interviewees from eating a more healthy meal. We came away with three insights to inform our final design concept. conceptsEat Well is a service that delivers healthy food options (either cooked meals or fresh produce) to your work site daily, subsidized by the workers' companies. To validate our concept and design, we came up with a list of potential task and emotions that our users might have in their daily life, to create an empathy map. This empathy map will help us to understand how their daily life at work will influence their eating habits. After the empathy map was done, I've also built two users' persona based on our users' interview.

reflectionEven though this project was developed under a short time frame with the guidelines provided by IDEO and Acumen, I was fortunate enough to work with a group of people from a diverse background. I pushed myself to pick up new front end development skills by learning how to code with HTML/CSS. It was challenging, but the process has taught me valuable technical lessions that I'm confident to be able to communicate with engineers in future projects.
